The feathers were flying in Sioux Falls last week, even more than the pigskin flew during the game between South Dakota and South Dakota State. Several activities were designed to intensify the rivalry, highlighted the world's largest pillow fight.
According to Thursday's USA Today, former boy-band singer Joey Fatone hosted the pillow fracas, which featured more participants than the previous record. Back in 2013, Chicago was the scene of a pillow fight that featured 3,813 participants.
The scene sounds like it would be a lot of fun. What would make it even more entertaining is music to correlate with the action.
Here are ten songs that would have made a good soundtrack as the people flung their fluffy featherbags at one another. Each song includes the word "pillow" in its title.
"Tears on My Pillow" by Little Anthony and the Imperials
This doo-wop ditty reached number four to become the group's biggest, and its first, major hit.
"Pillow Talk" by Sylvia
Ms. Robinson's moans on this 1973 hit helped pave the way for Donna Summer's breathy exhalations on "Love to Love Ya Baby" two years later.
"A Pillow of Winds" by Pink Floyd
Although it predates the band's greatest album by a year, this track from Meddle would not feel at all out of place on Dark Side of the Moon.
"Was Your Face a Head in the Pillow Case?" by Of Montreal
This interrogative title can be found on the indie band's singles album, Horse and Elephant Eatery.
"Pillow That Whispers" by Lynn Anderson
The country diva has an impressive catalogue, highlighted by "Rose Garden" and this fine single.
"Pillow Fight" by Sloan
The indie rockers have been making Beatles-esque music for two decades now, and this tune is on the compilation B Sides Win.
"Send Me the Pillow That You Dream On" by Dolly Parton
This country classic has been covered by many artists, but none does a better version than the founder of Dollywood.
"Darkness, Darkness (Be My Pillow)" by the Youngbloods
The band had more well-known tunes, but this one is still a fan favorite.
"I'll Pin a Note on Your Pillow" by Billy Joe Royal
The guy who gave us "Down in the Boondocks" took another spin at love on this underrated single.
"Pillow Lips" by Modern English
This excellent title exemplifies the imagery so often found in the songs of these late 70s new wave Brits, forever remembered for "I Melt with You."
